[This was My Dad's favourite hymn]Nearer, my God, to Thee Nearer to Thee!Even though it be a cross That raiseth me, Still all my song would be, Nearer, my God, to Thee Nearer to Thee!

Donald professed faith in Christ in 1988 and became a member of the High Church on 26th August 1988, the same day as his daughter Jessie. Donald deeply loved his family and, as soon as he became a Christian, committed himself to daily fervent prayer for them that he might see each of his eight children come to faith in Christ. It was a great joy to Donald that just days before his death he was able to testify that the last of his children had committed himself to Christ. It was typical of Donald that in every conversation it was not long before it turned to talk of Jesus. Always smiling, Donald loved to talk about Jesus.
Donald was ordained as a deacon on 11th April 1999 and faithfully served on the Deacons' Court and helped his fellow elder in pastorally caring for the Benside district of our congregation.
Donald will be missed in his regular seat in our church on Sundays, but most especially at our Tuesday Prayer meetings. Whenever Donald was asked to lead us in prayer, we all knew we would very quickly be lifted into the presence of God. He had a quality in prayer that no doubt was nurtured in his daily prayer times and conversations with God. Even in his final days of great weakness in the hospital he was heard to be quietly at prayer.
We give special thanks for the life, witness and service of Donald Macdonald and commit his wife Jemima and his whole family to the loving care of our God, the Father and His Son and our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
