Summer war : The landing !

During the summer of '97 the Blood angel ,Dark angel and Imperial guard 9th army group (the "king's own regt.") decided to embark on a military campaign on the Eldar controlled planet of Flanders 4 a planet on the edge of the west spiral arm of the galaxy . They wanted to land and liberate the large human population that had been taken prisoner when the governor of the planet had rebeled against the imperium and began to worship the eldar and their gods. The Dark angels interegator chaplain Asmodai, decided that if they could take the governor and his men alive then they could get information from him about the "fallen" from his allies the eldar.The first group to land was not big and they were waiting for their re-enforcments to arrive when they were attacked by a sizeable force of eldar , this is their story.....

As the sun rose high above the city the marines and imperial guard started to dig themselves in, in the central ruins of the old tower blocks,from this vantage point they could see the advancing eldar and prepare their defences accordingly , they just had to hold out for three days and then the armoured column would arrive and relieve them with fresh troops. Commander Azrael surveyed the scene and then suddenly he saw a flash out the corner of his eye , he instinctively ducked but the missile hit the wall infront of him and the fragments tore into his arm , then the silent battlefield erupted in tracer fire and explosions .Apothercary Janson ran to the dark angels commander and pulled out his medi kit , gave him a shot for the pain and tried to wrap his wounds but Azrael would have none of it and shrugged the bandage off then the dreadnought marched forward and opened fire with it's missile launcher ,raining death down on the eldar guardians advancing in the rubble .  The rest of the army under a hail of bullets ,began pushing forward to take the surrounding buildings but were pushed back by increasing missile fire from the dark reapers positioned in the missile silo tower forward of the main dark angel force. High up on top of the main tower ,a lone sniper took aim ,the small muzzle flashes of the exitus rifle were drowned out by the drifting smoke from the explosions below but the dark reapers in the silo were silenced .Seeing the end to the missile fusilade the corageous Royal Marine commandos burst forward to take the ruins and pour fire down on to the already faltering left flank of the enemy. The Dark angel assault squad and mordian ironguard pushed further into enemy lines and killed a small resistance force of fire dragons and the swooping hawks were mercilessly cut down by the Marines ,this effectively ended the main assault on the imperium right flank .   On the left flank the Blood Angel Marines were firing ceaselessly down onto the eldar harlequins who were trying to avoid the deadly fire by jumping in and out of the buildings as they attempted to get close to the two main tower blocks ,as they got within striking distance there was suddenly a high pitched whine as the chimera came racing up beside them ,fire belching from it's engines ,and threw a large black thing out of the back towards the stunned harlequins , when they realised it was a deadly eversor assasin it was too late , he ripped through them with deadly ease but in this melee he failed to notice the howling banshees that were approaching and was subsequently over powered, as he was stunned from their masks, and cut down by the banshee exarch. Seeing their companion murdered infront of them the chimera crew swung the chimera round and fired all their guns at the remaining banshees and harlequins ,smearing the ground with their blood ,the eversor was avenged so they fired at the warwalker that was trying to avoid the incoming rounds of the dark angel dreadnought , this was melted down to it's component atoms by a hull mounted multi-melta ,a small adaption that the crew had added after their tour of necromunda.  Things were looking decidedly bleak for the eldar commander as most of his force was swept aside by the advancing imperial army , then the arrival of the full tank support was enough to turn the battle completely and turn the eldar attack into a rout which  slaughtered the remaining few and left the road to the bridge at  Nijmegen city  wide open , Commander Azrael had achieved his objective and now he and his fellow officers sat down and planned the assault on the bridge. The arrival of a large force of Blood Angels including their famous commanders Tycho ,Corbulo and Mephiston was enough to worry the Eldar even more as they had heard stories of the Blood Angels eating their captives and drinking blood. The Governor of the planet tried to muster all his forces together to stand with the Eldar but they were very reluctant and some even switched sides ,begging for forgiveness from the emperor's children.  The Army marched again to the sound of the drum , onward to Nijmegen.......
