ARTIST STATEMENT

Animals given human characteristics have been a source of inspiration for my paintings.  This art is accessible to everyone.  Many of us have grown up with children's books such as Aesop's Fables or Uncle Wiggily.  The cartoons Tom & Jerry and Bugs Bunny also come to mind.  Animals depicted as people give us a warm familiarity that we remember from our childhoods.

Many people at some point in their lives, have thought a particular person to look like a cat, a chicken, or whatever animal comes to their fertile imaginations.  The wizened owl wears glasses, and the fox is dapper and sly.

As people, we sometimes tend to give human-like traits to animals as well.  Bringing the human experience to animal form is the focus of these paintings, as well as bringing laughter and joy to the viewer.
