Born in the winter of 1970 in Gainesville, Georgia, Bart spent the first 8 years of his life in Dahlonega, Georgia a small gold rush town  nestled within the foothills of the Blueridge Mountains (Talonige or Dalonige, from theCherokee-language word meaning "yellow" or "gold"). Bart remembers his early years overflowing with creativityand sport: a father that was performing and teaching classical piano and choral music, a mother who was teaching English and American Literature and Creative Writing and a an older brother producing his own comic books and introducing bart to football, soccer and skateboarding.

Through junior high and high school, Bart continued to explore the arenas of both sport and art. Bart started on both defense and offense in football his junior and senior years. He was a starting fullback and middlefielder on the soccer squad. Bart played cornet in the junior high concert band. He made the art room his home away from home. And he acted in the lead male of "Up the Down Staircase" his senior year.

Once out of high school, Bart enrolled at Mississippi State University in Starkville. There he met Brent Funderburk, who would turn out to be a major influence on Bart's growth as an artist and individual. He also formed lasting friendships with fellow students Ed Lowther, Lorraine Brennan, William Andrews, Todd Eldridge and Chad Anderson.

Bart Received his B.F.A. in painting from Mississippi State in 1993 and continued his studies at the University of Mississippi with Jere Allen. He received his M.F.A. in painting in the spring of 1996. For the next ten years, Bart would remain in Mississippi, living in Columbus, Tupelo, Utica, Jackson and finally Clinton; working as an artist, designer and educator.

In 2006 Bart made the move to Louisville, Kentucky, a city that he had been infatuated with since his first visit in 2000.

Living in Louisville has allowed Bart to expand his creative outlets into puppetry, music and most recently mental health. Bart currently works as a Recreational Coordinator for Central State Hospital in East Louisville.

Living in Louisville has also allowed him to ditch the automobile and make the bicycle his main mode of transportation. The value of this decision he discovers (and celebrates) every day as he is able to ride through the city he loves.

Bart hopes that this website will help him to build momentum for new work that expresses a life that's possible.......stay tuned.
