I had this page up once, but then relized when I reread it that it sounded more like I was talking to people who knew just what this diease is. Well Like me. We all have a lot to learn about this. I can tell you that it is a diease of the blood the effects the liver and yes you can die from it with out the treatments.
OK, Now I will tell you about me and the treatment I am on. I will not pretend I know everything , Trust me, it is far from it, so I will leave links to pages that will help you to understand what this diease is and what it can do to you.
I am Hep C Positive and am told my Virual count is at 0, So they tell me that is great, But I still have a long road to go, like 6 more months. I am on a treatment called a combo treatment. What that is, is Rebetron Combination Therapy Pak 1200/Pen , what I do with this is take 3 pills in the AM and 3 pills in the PM everyday and a self Shot 3 times a week , I do this for one full year. Always knowing that I may be what they call nonresponsive, which I was at firt, to expanding my life another 20 to 40 years or more. Or I could be told 3 to 5 months later that I either have to do it all over again or die.
Now I am 37 years old, A friend I grew up with told me he had this diease about 5 years ago and he thought I should be checked with a simple blood test for liver enzimes, Well I Laughed and said "Yeah Right" I don't have Hep C, Well Then I got ill about 2 years later. Had bad pains in my right side under my rib, and my skin was turning very yellow, So I went to the Dr , 3 years ago and WOW !!!!!! I was positive. Talk about a shock. yeah I know, I should have know. But I still didn't do anything till about 1 year ago. The Dr let me know and was stright to the point, either try this treatment or die in less then 6 months. So I had the Liver biopsy done and started treatment that June.. This treatment can make you very ill , I know it did me. I could not hold down food, Hence lost 65 lbs in from june till nov. I was always tired, I got very depressed, And I blamed the whole world for everything. But ya know, finding out how I got this was very hard for me. I thought it was from IV drug use ( Clean 15 years on 4/4/02 ) But then relized during that time I always used a clean needle and never shared, OK Left that out, So I thought maybe from a couple of Tattos I had done, But nope, I watched them, They were all new needles, inks, everything, OK thats out.. Then relized I had a Blood transfusion on 3 seperate occacions all during 1989 till 1990, and another one in Jan of 1994 during a hip replacement. Well there ya go, They were not testing for HepC at them times and I got Blood that was infected.. Well I can't complain to much, it saved my life. Yet I want to scream cause not I have this " Silent Killer" Well here is to hoping I will be OK, anyone needing to talk or just needs a shoulder, has links, or other infor, Please email me, i will be happy to add to this page.
But to leave you with this. there are a lot of up sides to this treatment. If you only hear the bad side you might die, listen to the good sides before you decide not to do it OK.. Don't lay down and let it win, Fight back, get up and move on with your life. it is worth it, there is to much to live for...
