One day when I was home alone and could listen to what I
wanted on the stereo I began digging through my old vinyl
and came upon a double live album I bought back when I was in
college. I spun it and left it out in plain sight. When my
Katie came home she saw the record and screamed,
"Stayin' Alibe, Mommy! Oh, please play Stayin' Alibe!"
I tried to explain to her that Stayin' Alive was not on this
album, (I now realize she was calling the Gibbs "Stayin' Alive"
and just wanted to hear the album) and promised her that Santa
would bring her the record. Now, take into consideration that
Katie was three by this time and had only seen the Bee Gees once
on a talk show two months earlier. She recognized them immediately
on a twenty year old album cover. Lookin' good guys. Yes, Katie
did get her Stayin' Alive and a lot of other songs she came to
love too. I bought her the Bee Gees Greatest and she had me
play it for months every night during her bath. She would
also look at their pictures from the insert in the CD.
One night I asked her, "Who is your favorite BG, Barry, Robin or Maurice?
I made the mistake of pronouncing his name Maw-ris and was instantly
corrected. "It's Morris! you said Maw-ris and it's Morris! Where
that came from I don't know. She also told me she used to date
him and they would drive around in a yellow car.
