Daruny is a small prosperous country in central Europe, about 10,000 square miles (close to the size of Massachusetts), occupying the Darunian High Plain and part of the surrounding ring of mountains. 5 million people call this country home. It is more tolerant of gender-variant people than any other country in the world, because gender is entirely about presentation; physical appearance doesn't even figure into it. Thus even the most masculine-looking man can be seen as a woman if he presents as one, and, similarly, even the most feminine-looking woman can be seen as a man if she presents as one.
Daruny is a constitutional monarchy, currently ruled by Queen Sonia IV. Her castle is in Liskom, Daruny's capital and largest city. She has no real power; her duties are entirely ceremonial. All the governing power lies in the Parliament and the President. The Darunian Parliament is one of the few in which each party is perfectly proportionally represented.

DISCLAIMER: Daruny is not a real country. It's just a thought experiment. It is not a political movement to form a new country like some "micronations." The existence of a tradition of allowing children to choose their gender in this fictional country does not constitute an endorsement of such a cultural practice. The scenery comes from pictures of various places in Europe, and the pictures of Darunians are really pictures of crossdressers (with the exception of the Sworn Virgin shown above, who lives as a man and thus does not count as a crossdresser).
