|As we all know, former governor Howard Dean is currently the so-called frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. Most of his supporters coalesced around him because he's one of the loudest of the pack and had the courage to say "No"; to the war in Iraq. But a lot of Democratic activists think Dean has little chance to be a believable candidate in the general election against "president" Bush.
Wesley Clark is the best candidate to defeat Bush, and by far the freshest, most trust-worthy face of the Democratic pack. He doesn't come from the small world of politics and doesn't have to endure the inherent mistrust most people have from inside-the-beltway officials. He comes from the South (Arkansas), which is a must-win for Dems next November.
And in these times of military and international crisis, Clark's credentials are perfect. Just picture the Four-star General next to Bush dressed up as a soldier. Who's the buffoon now ? As the Supreme Commander of NATO, Clark knows what responsibility means. His rise among military command as been meteoric. And when he retired in 2000, he was a Four star General who'd just run the successful war against Serbia. Clark knows NATO, he knows the United Nations, and he knows that America can only be strong WITH its allies and not AGAINST its allies.
On domestic issues, General Clark is a liberal with some centrist views. He?s for gun control ("If you want to fire an assault weapon, join the army"), but not strict enough to alienate right-leaning centrists. He favors gays in the military, is pro-choice, pro-affirmative action, and knows Bush?s reckless tax cuts need some rethinking. He's naturally against drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge.
