Twisted Knobs



1 egg

2 egg yolks

1/4 tsp salt

2 Tbsp butter, melted

2 Tbsp heavy cream

1 Tbsp orange flavored liqueur or orange extract

2 cups all purpose flour


Oil for deep frying

Confectioners sugar or granulated sugar for dusting


In a medium bowl, with an electric mixer, beat the egg, egg yolks, sugar and salt until light. Stir in butter, cream and orange liqueur or extract.

Using a spoon, add the flour, blending until smooth If necessary add a little more flour to make a stiff dough.

Roll out a third of the dough at a time on a lightly floured board to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into 3 x 1 inch strips. Make a lengthwise slit in the center of each, and pull one end completely through so that the center is twisted.

Heat the oil to 350 degrees F. Fry a few at a time, in the hot oil, until a delicate brown. Drain on paper towels. When cool, dust with confectioners or granulated sugar.
