Heat oven to 375º.
Beat butter and sugars in large bowl with electric mixer on medium until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix in flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in chocolate, walnuts, and dried fruit. Drop by rounded tablespoons, 2” apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12 min or until golden brown. Cool 3 min, remove from cookie sheets. Cool completely on wire racks.
Optional: replace dried fruit with a combination of raisins and cranberries or 1-1/2 cups of either.
Instead of Semi sweet chocolate, walnuts and dried fruit use white chocolate, almonds and chopped apricots
