Christmas Cookie Cut-Outs



1 cup butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

2 tsp vanilla

3 cups sifted all purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp salt


Sugar Glaze:

1-1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar

3 Tbsp light corn syrup

2 Tbsp milk

1/4 tsp vanilla

food coloring optional


Colored sugars, tiny multicolored candies, silver dragees, finely chopped chocolate or mini chocolate bits, or any type of decoration you desire


In a medium bowl, with an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.

Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt, stir into the butter mixture, blend well. Chill thoroughly.

Roll our 1/4 of the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with Christmas cutters or cookie cutters of choice. Place an inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree F for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned at edges. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

Frost the cookies with the sugar glaze and decorate as desired before the glaze hardens.

Glaze: In a medium bowl, combine the confectioners sugar, corn syrup, mil and vanilla; blend well. If tinting with food coloring remove portions into smaller bowls. Cover with plastic wrap until ready to use.
