Beat ingredients and salt in large bowl with electric mixer on med speed until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar and vanilla. Mix in flour and nuts. Refrigerate dough 1 hour
Heat oven to 350º
Roll dough into 1” balls. Place 2” apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Indent center of each cookie, place 5 or 6 chocolate chips in center of each and top with a maraschino cherry half or a half of a candied cherry. Bake 5 minutes. 15-18 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes, remove and finish cooling on wire rack.
