Sunrise Poundcake

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and lightly flour a 10 tube pan. Move the baking racks in the oven so that only one is in the middle to hold the cake.

In a large bowl cream the butter, with an electric mixer. Add the sugar and cream again. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Lowering the mixer speed to low, gradually add in the flour and beat for 10 minutes. Add the orange juice, almond extract and lemon extract. Mix well to blend. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for one hour. For the first 30 minutes of cooking, put a pan of water on the shelf under the cake. Remove the water for the remainder of the cooking time.

Turn the cake out onto a cake rack placed over foil. Sprinkle the warm cake with the orange flavored liqueur, then immediately spread the icing over the cake. Cover the cake with a large bowl and wait at least 1 hour before serving.

Glace: Stir the confectioners sugar, the lemon peel, lemon juice and orange juice together in a small bowl until the sugar is dissolved and the icing is smooth. The icing should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If the icing is too thin add more confectioners sugar, if to thick add more orange juice.
