Spiced Beer Cake



1 Cup Light Molasses

1/3 Cup Cooking Oil

2-1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour

1-1/2 Tsp Baking Soda

1/2 Tsp Ginger

1/4 Tsp Cinnamon

1/4 Tsp Cloves

1/4 Tsp Nutmeg

1/2 Cup Beer, Light Or Dark

1 Cup Raisins

1/2 Cup Walnuts, Chopped


Buttered Beer Sauce:

1/4 Cup Packed Brown Sugar

4 Tsp All Purpose Flour

1/2 Cup Beer

1/2 Cup Water

2 Tbl Butter

1/4 Tsp Vanilla


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2" baking pan.


In a mixing bowl comgine molasses and oil. Beat in eggs. Stir together flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Beat into molasses mixture, alternately with beer. Stir in raisins and nuts. Pour into prepared baking pan.Bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven; cool slightly and cut into squares to serve. Top with Buttered Beer Sauce and serve warm.


Buttered Beer Sauce: In a saucepan combine brown sugar and flour. Gradually stir in beer and water. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Stir in buter and canilla. Makes 1-1/4 cups
