Preheat oven to 350º. Butter a baking dish or pan that hold 5-6 cups of batter and is 2” deep.
In a large mixing bowl, stir in flour and eggs, slowly stir in milk, sugar and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until the flour lumps disappear and the batter is smooth.
Pat the cherries completely dry with the paper towels, then spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish. Pour in the batter. Bake on the middle shelf of the oven for 1-1/2 hours or until the top is golden brown and firm to the touch. Dust lightly with confectioners sugar.
