Directions:

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and lightly flour two 9 round cake pans.

Cake: Heat water, butter, shortening, and cocoa in a medium saucepan, over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until smooth; remove from heat. Cool.

Mix flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Beat in cocoa mixture with an electric mixer on low speed until smooth. Beat in eggs, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth. Pour into prepared pans, and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pans before removing to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Fill layers with butter cream cheese filling. Frost the side and top of cake with chocolate frosting, pressing walnuts onto side of cake.

Butter Cream Cheese Filling: Beat butter and cream cheese in medium bowl on medium speed until fluffy. Beat in confectioners sugar and vanilla on low speed until smooth.

Chocolate Frosting: Beat butter in medium bowl on medium speed until fluffy. Gradually beat in confectioners sugar, cocoa, milk an vanilla on low speed until smooth.
