Cheese Bread

Ingredients:

All-purpose flour

Packages active dry yeast

Milk

Shredded cheddar cheese

Egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water

Directions:

In large bowl thoroughly mix 2 cups of flour, sugar and yeast.

In call saucepan, combine milk, water, and butter. Heat over low heat until just warm.

 

 

Gradually add milk mixture to dry ingredients, beat 2 min scraping down sides on occasion. Add cheese, (reserving 2 tablespoons for later) and enough flour to make a soft dough (3-4 cups). Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 min. Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top of dough, cover and let rise in warn place, free from drafts, for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.

Punch down dough, turn onto floured and let rest for 15 min.

Preheat oven to 375, Grease 2 loaf pans.

Shape into 2 balls, kneading each until smooth. Shape into loaves, and place in prepared loaf pans. Let rise about 40 min or until double in bulk.

Brush with egg mixture, sprinkle with reserved cheese, and bake for 35-40 min or until golden brown and sound hollow when rapped. Cool on wire racks
