The following is a simple 12 bar blues progression in the key of E. The E7 is the I chord, A7 is the IV chord, and B7 is the V7 chord. If you don't understand the I-IV-V reference, see The Number System and The Harmonized Scale. In blues, you can use the 7 in the I and IV chords as well as in the V.

In the following progression, we are changing to the key of G. G7 is the I, C7 is the IV, and D7 is the V7.

In the following diagrams, remember Bbdim7 is the enharmonic equivalent (same thing) as A#dim7
