7 Chords

Many of my students have been confused by the different varieties of 7 chords. I'll try to clarify the matter.

The most common 7 chord is the dominant 7 chord. It is so common that we leave out the word dominant.
If we want a G dominant 7 chord, we just say G7.

The Major seven chord is a major chord with a major 7.

The minor seven chord is a minor chord with a minor seven.

Try this pattern to hear how the Am with a Maj7 is used
