Cruise Control
Rostra Unit

Everyone knows how long a drive can be if you do not have cruise control. I drove my truck twice on two 16 hour round trip drives and it seemed to take forever. I had spend a lot time trouble shooting and buying parts for the original cruise control but could not get it to work. I finally gave up and bought an entire new system from Rostra. The components were sold to me to match what I would need to install a complete workable cruise control system. I removed the entire factory wiring harness, lever, signal generator, brake switch, control module and the vacuum servo.

The new Rostra unit was a simple installation. First was the installation of the signal generator. The signal generator unit was install between the transmission and the speedometer cable. The unit is basically a cable addition with an electronic pulse generator. The generator has wires that were run along the speedometer cable back into the cab. Next was the most difficult task of all, installation of the new lever on the steering column. I cut the original lever off and install the new lever to the remaining stud. After installing the new lever, I ran the new wires through the steering column. You must be very careful pulling the wires or you will destroy your wiring. The new control module was installed in the same location as the original. After programming the switches on the module for my setup, next was the installation of the wiring harness. The new  wiring harness was routed through same cab location of the removed factory harness.

A cruise control bracket must be made to fit "in-line" to throttle linkage. I bolted the bracket to the intake manifold using the same bolt used for the transmission TV cable. I used two small machined brackets to to complete the installation.

The new vacuum cruise servo was mounted on trucks inside body panel. After mounting, I ran the "pull" cable along the firewall to reach the carburetor linkage. After some adjusting, the entire linkage and servo were bolted for permanent installation.
