Cab and Instruments
After dusting off the interior and removing the spider webs, a driver must feel at home driving behind the wheel. The first thing I did was cover the old seat. The seat is torn beyond repair. For a few bucks, I bought a seat cover at a local parts store. Next was the carpet. Not knowing what color to get because I had not decided on the truck color, I used some left over carpet in the truck. The left over house carpet just happened to match the cab color interior just right. I removed the seat, belts and  sound silencer material. Used a water hose and vacuum cleaner to remove all the  dirt. After drying, I used two large pieces of carpet to cover the floor board. This installation was a major improvement until I was ready to restore the entire cab.
Picture of new pedals and house left over carpet with floor mat. A color matching carpet will be installed when the truck is painted and the interior is restored. The throttle holding plate was modified to allow more pull on the throttle. The throttle cable was also replaced.
Truck actual miles as of June 19, 2000.

Replacing instrument panel bulds in these truck is not easy. You have to remove a lot screws and be careful not to break any gauge needles. Since the truck was exposed to sunlight over the years the little instrument needles broke off just by touching them. The cost to install original equipment is expensive. For a modern and unique style, I chose to replace the gauges with digital instruments. I had kept the original clock but later installed a tachmoter in its place. The tachometer also has a high memory recall as shown in the RMP picture.
Gauges:
Top left: Voltmeter
Top right: Oil pressure
Bottom left: Tachometer with high RPM recall.
Bottom right: Coolant temperature.
Here are different views to the instrument panel. If you notice the original cruise control lever has been removed. The lever seen in the pictures is from a Rostra vacuum servo unit. The unit is discussed on the next page. The smaller lever is for tilt steering column. Notice that I have also replaced the original steering wheel with a Grant sport style wheel.
