I have been searching for my family/relatives in Hungary for many years. And now, with the help of a dear friend I am able to share my story with you. If you are interested in family research and the search for heritage please read my autobiography below: I was born on June 27, 1958 in the city of Buffalo, New York, USA. I was named Monica Varga at birth but my name is also listed as Monica Varga Barany on some legal documents. My birth mother was a young woman who was new to the United States. She came to the USA from Hungary during the 1956 uprising and located in Western New York. My birth mother's name is Elizabeth Varga. Her birthdate is believed to be 11/21/33. She was 24 years old at the time of my birth. She may have been married or had a relationship with a gentleman with the last name of Barany. A woman by the name of Gizella was listed on my hospital records as my mother's next of kin. The last name of Barany was also listed next to Gizella or Elizabeth's name. It is known that Gizella was a friend of my mother's and they both worked at Buffalo General Hospital for a short time. My birth mother spoke very little English and was trying to get settled in her new home. Elizabeth gave me up for adoption to Catholic Charities because she felt she could not give me the care a child would need. The information my birth mother Elizabeth provided about herself was that she was 5 ft. tall, approx. 115 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes. That she was employed as a kitchen worker/aide and came from Hungary recently. She listed herself as Catholic and educated. All I know about my father is that he was Hungarian also. I lived in foster care for 5 months and was adopted in December 1958. I moved to Niagara Falls with my new family and had a wonderful childhood. From the time I was 4 years old I have known that I was different than anyone else in my family. I grew up wanting to know where my birth mother was, who I looked like and how I came to be. Since my later teens I have searched for my mother and my birth families' history. After 25 years I am still searching for my beginnings. I would like to have the knowledge that most people take for granted, who I am and were I came from? I would also like to let my birth mother and family know that I am here, have had a good and loving upbringing, have children of my own and would love to bring my life full circle, to know about them. Visiting Hungary, to be connected to the land of my family and my roots, has always been a dream of mine. I need to know where I come from, my history, my children's history. In the summer of 2003 my husband and I spent 10 days travelling through parts of Hungary. I gazed upon the seas of graceful sunflowers that cover the countryside. I climbed to the top of St. Istavan's Cathedral and looked down across the beautiful city of Budapest. My spirit was warmed and my need to find the truth grows stronger everyday. I must complete my search. Can you help in any way? If you know anything or anyone that can help me find my birth mother and Hungarian relatives or have information about citizens leaving Hungary during the 1956 uprising please contact me at: ddn627@yahoo.com or Deborah Deuro-Naughton 6984 Jennifer Ct.
