HOW TO FIND SOMEONE

If you know all or part of the person's name, try a white pages site that searches phone books and e-mails first, such as:

To save time, all these sites, and several others, can be accessed through WiredSource.

For listings outside the United States and Canada, try World Pages.

Bulletin boards depend on someone you are looking for to visit the same sites themselves (or someone who knows them). Before you post, check to make sure no one is looking for you! Sites include:

  • BirthQuest -- for adoptees seeking birth family and vice versa. Free to search; $20 to post a message.

  • Reu-Net -- Matches people by their postings. $25 to post.

  • People Finder -- Another all-purpose site, including sections for missing persons, former spouses, and lost loves.

  • The Seeker -- A large site where you can search and post under "relatively seeking", "generally seeking", "seeking beneficiaries", and "militarily seeking".

  • ReunionNet -- Find out if your high school, family, or military unit is holding a reunion, or create a page for one you're organizing.

  • Sites specifically for military searches:
