Capt. John Harvey Thomson [Tompson, Thompson] (1825 Scott Co KY-1892 Maryville MO) & Esther Antoinette Martin (12/1/1829 Woodford Co KY-1912) They were
married July 1 1847 in Midway KY. J. H. Tompson was an original member
of the Baptist church at Midway, moving from the Great Crossing Church;
he was elected deacon. They owned a large brick home in Midway, and
Ann Woodlief has a photograph of it, inscribed "My Old Kentucky Home"
by Antoinette Craig Matthews. On the back she wrote: "Mama Craig's girlhood
home, Midway KY. Sarah Winnifred Tompson Craig daughter of Esther Antoinette
Martin Thompson & John Harvey Tompson. "Pa" and "Ma" we called them,
as the Scots do--Antoinette Craig Matthews." Antoinette was sent to
Kentucky to live with her grandparents, as her mother said she already
had too many children to take care of. She felt this as "abandonment"
all her life, as her grandparents were old and no longer interested
in having children around. William Martin gave Esther a silver mug (made
from 25 silver dollars) inscribed : Wm H. Martin To his daughter Mrs.
E. A. Tompson 1856. She gave it to her granddaughter Antoinette Craig
Matthews, who gave it to her oldest granddaughter, Annette Matthews
Woodlief, who gave it to her oldest daughter, Lynalise Roebuck Woodlief.
She also has a signed quilt, made by Aunt Nettie Tompson (Esther Antoinette)
for her sister's granddaughter, Ethel, in 1868. Children:
