"Peterley House" c.1781

This is not the building which John Woodleefe was born in, but is built on the site of the old manor house, although some of the original still stands. Peterley Manor was once part of the Great Missenden Abbey and was given to the Dormer family by Henry VIII after the dissolution of the abbeys. The Dormers never lived there at the time, but probably gave a long term lease on it to Robert Woodliff and the interest was conveyed back to Sir Robert Dormer in 1596.
