Macquarie Light was established in 1818.  The Light inservice today was rebuilt in 1893.  This light was designed by an architect convict, Francis Greenway.  Today the Light is powered by 120v, 1,000 watt quartz halogen lamp.  It flashes 2 every 10 seconds.  The light can be seen 25 miles out to sea.  The grounds surrounding the lighthouse are lovely.  The view of Sydney harbor is breathtaking.  There is a plaque commerating the 150 years of service  out front.
When standing looking out over the Pacific you truly feel like you are on the edge of the world.  This was one of the highlights of our trip to Australia.  For more Australian Lighthouse information please check out this web site.  http://www.lighthouse.net.au/lights/default3.htm
