Special Diets

Where do I start! there are plenty of us Vegetarians about.
BUT
The reasons why each of us choose to be vegetarians are different. There are people who will not or cannot eat meat because of a medical condition.

I list some diets. Clicking on them will take you to a brief paragraph about each. I cannot give a complete explanation for each diet, you will need to check these out just remember what is OK for one person may not work for the next individual. You probably have a better grasp to know what is best for you.

Low Fat Diet

However there is plenty out there on the internet to take a look at and help, the following couple of links are just some such sources.
Please note as not directly in my control I cannot be responcible if these links function or not.

Vegetarian
A person who does not eat meat but has no problem with dairy products (lacto-ovo vegetarians): eggs, milk, cream, butter / margarine or cheese. Some people who eat fish call themselves 'vegetarians'. There are soya products as well as TVP (Textured Vegtable Protein) mixes and are a good alternative to replace meat.

Vegan
Is someone who does not eat ANY animal products and includes dairy products. Soya products can replace these. TVP (Textured Vegtable Protein) mixes are a good alternative to replace meat.

Diabetic
There are quite a number who are diabetic and there are different variants, some need to be on insulin. A couple of issues at least need to be kept to, the control of blood sugar levels, to maintain an ideal body weight. I know there are further issues to regard. For meals preparation you are looking at low sugar and sugary foods, low in fat and fatty foods. Being positive about fibre foods and having regular carbohydrate foods.

Allergy to Monosodium Glutamate - E621
A lot of pre packed foods and tin foods use this flavour enhancer, even some crisps have this additive. Home prepared foods are usually safe, providing your ingrediants do not contain this enhancer.

Allergy to Preservative / Clouring
Many packet or tinned foods contain Preservative or Clouringthese BUT there are many food manufacturers that delight themselves by using this as a selling point.

Allergy to Dairy Products
People with this diet are NOT to touch ANY dairy products use soya margarines and soya milk for pastry, cakes, and sauces.

Gluten Free Diet
Coeeliac disease and Dermatitis Herpetiforis also need a gluten free diet. A healthy diet should be the order of the day. Avoid ALL foods with wheat, rye, barley and oats.

Low Fat Diet
Whoever is on this diet cannot tolerate a high fat content, use low fat spreads, low fat yoghurts. When using milk use skimmed milk.

PLEASE CHECK WHAT YOU BUYas many foods even some condiments contain wheat flour! Unfortunately you usually need very good eyesight to read, good lighting does help. After a while you get to know where to look and what you are looking for, only experience can help you there!

I cannot stress to check who may be on a special diet.
