THE INTERSTELLAR REGENCY
Almost 450 years ago, the Regency rose like a Phoenix from the ashes of mankind's worse defeat.
It is the year 2648 and troubled time have come again to the Regency. Cabals and conspirators lurk in the Regency's court. Rumors abound of the Borderers going native and of disloyalty in the Fleet. Even quieter whispers tell of instability in the mind of the Regent. And, as always, there are wars and rumors of wars aplenty. What has been Humanity's last best hope after the Fall of Terra, is now in crisis and no one knows what to expect. They just hope that when the hammer drops, it doesn't drop on them.

The Interstellar Regency is a GURPS: Space setting that's been simmering on my back burner for several years. The ISR is a society in transition. Chaos Theory & Murphy's Law tag teaming an early TL11 nation & its neighbors. Needless to say, this setting didn't spring fully grown & armed from my forehead one afternoon. Game influences include GURPS, of course. In addition to Space and the assorted tech books, Cyberworld featured heavily in the early versions, and Religion provided the disaster which created the Regency. Traveller, Traveller:2300, and Traveller New Era get credit for starting my interest in this gaming genre, and keeping it there. The Avalon Hill game Kingmaker  along with Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and the state & local governments of my native Louisiana provided much of the ideas for the political side of things. Literary influences that went into the mix include Heinlein, Dickerson, Drake, & especially Elizabeth Moon's 4 book "Herris Serrano" trilogy. On the visual side of things, Bayblon 5 made darker far-futures more popular. Space: Above & Beyond serves as a wonderful example of how not to use highly trained pilots, but at least they brought un-abashed military sci-fi to the masses.
