Spot was adopted from the local Humane Society on January 9, 1999. She was around 1 year old though she is tiny for her age. (Yes, we chose her name from ST TNG.) Spot is the SWEEDEST WIDDLE FING! (Although Pete says I shouldn't talk baby talk to her because she'll never learn to speak proper English that way.) But she is a HUMONGOUS cry-baby and has "looking pitiful" down to an artform.

When Spot first came to live here, we didn't think she knew how to play. We tried every toy we could think of. Finally we discovered straws. Since then, Spot has learned that being played with is SO MUCH FUN and has expanded her circle of playable items. Now she wants to play ALL THE TIME and looks pitiful and meows to be played with. We've tried to convince her (to no avail) that SOMETIMES she could play on her own.

Spot likes straws. Spot also likes "muttering" at flashlight beams or other reflected light. She likes chasing the beam from the laser pointer, chasing jingle balls and wrestling with her fuzzy toys (more like licking them to death). When Spot catches a straw or her string, she likes to pick it up in her mouth and carry it around for a bit or play tug-of-war with it. Then she sets it down and meows that it's time to pull it again. She loves lining up her strings in straight lines across the floor (see video at bottom of page).

Spot loves milk and turkey. Especially milk. She knows when Mommy gets tea (probably cause Mommy does that 3 dozen times a day) it means Mommy is going to get milk from the fridge to put in the tea, so looking pitiful and meowing nonstop will probably get her some milk, too.

When Sandy was alive, Spot used to like watching Sandy run around her cage or in her ball but Sandy was no fun during the daytime, that darned hamster SLEPT all day (though Spot sat at the cage and STARED, trying to will Sandy awake). Spot likes relaxing on top of her cat condo (and driving the neighbours' dogs nuts) and sleeping in her basket or on her fuzzy yellow baby blanket.

Spot hates getting eardrops (but that's all over with now). Spot dislikes when Mommy gets a new assignment and spends all day paying attention to the computer. She hops up on the computer desk, looking pitiful, meowing, purring, walking back and forth in front of the screen, rubbing and generally giving the computer furrballs. But Mommy pats her and keeps typing, so then she sits on Mommy's papers. Mommy tries to move the papers so she can still read them, but Spot follows the papers around. The only time Mommy really gets upset is when Spot rubs against the computer "Reset" button. But Spot's only trying to teach her the benefit of saving her work more often.

Spot and Sandy dance the Cha-Cha. That's not such a big deal, though. It took them MANY lessons. (Wow, that's some giant hamster!)
