German Shepherds have been part of my life since 1963.  Ch. Walka vom Elbbachtal ROMC, second highest ROMC bitch at the time, OFA-6769T Excellent, was imported at a young age from Germany in 1973.  She died at 13 years of age of a heart attack while chasing our cattle.  She never tolerated them.
Even now Walka's imprint is still visible in my breeding program after several generations.  She was my foundation bitch.  She was bred to Ch. Cobert's Reno of Lakeside ROM three times and to Ch. Kubistraum's Kane ROM twice.

Walka, or Juno, which was her call name, was the second highest top producing bitch in 1985.

When bred to Reno, she produced Am. & Can. Ch. Valor of Cedar, ROMC OFA, four times Best in Show with limited showing.

He was one of Canada's top winning males, No. 2 in 1979 and No. 3 in 1981.  the top winning male, Ch. Citizen Kane "O" Quanlin, was also a Valor son.

When Valor's sister, Dream of Cedar, was bred to Sel. Am. Ch. Wellspring's Ironside, the super star,  Sel. Am. & Sel. Can. Ch. Omar of Cedar, was born.

Omar finished his Canadian championship at 14 months and his American title at 18 months going best of Breed from the classes at the 1981 Reno, Nevada Specialty.
Omar's distinguished career as one of Canada's top winning shepherds, with limited showing, included Best in Show, Group, and Specialty wins, beginning with the following in 1982:

Best in Northwestern Futurity, U.S.
Best male in Northwestern Maturity, U.S.
Best male in Western Region, Canada
Select at the Canadian National, Judge Ed Barrit
Select at the U.S. National, Judge Ernest Loeb

Omar has made substantial contributions to the improvement of the breed.  He was the highest ROMC sire in the history of the breed in Canada, producing more than 57 champions!

My Omar daughter, Sel. Ch. Jamica of Cedar ROMC OFA, was bred to Sel. Am. Ch. Lothario of Heinerburg ROM OFA.  The pick puppy from this litter was Sel. Can. Am. Ch. Woden of Cedar.  Some of his outstanding wins follow:

1987 Best male in Northwestern futurity, U.S.
Judge Jack Newton
1988 Best male in Northwestern Maturity, U.S.
Judge Helen Sherlock
1988 Select at the Canadian National
Judge Dr. Walter Frost
1989 No. 1 Futurity-Maturity sire in Canada

Wodan competed only three times in specialties, where he was presnted by Gail Sprock.  The results follow:

* U.S. Specialty, 5 points under Judge Dave Rinke
* U.S. Specialty, 5 points under Judge Ed Barrit
* U.S. Specialty, 5 points under Judge Fred Migliore

Ch. Woden was a dominant sire.  His gorgeous pigment and outstanding breed type are seen in his offspring.

My next star, 12 years old, is Sel. Can. Am. Ch. Bakervue's Bremen of Cedar OFA.  He is linebred on Omar.

Here I am pleased to thank my friend, Linda Fulton, who bred Breman and permitted me to have the pick puppy from his dam, Tutzie of Cedar.  Breman is a worthy successor to my strong male line of Valor, Omar, and Woden.  He enjoys life on eight beautiful acres on Bowen Island, 20 minutes by ferry from West Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Keeping a small number of dogs gives me the pleasure of truly enjoying each of them!  During these past thirty-eight years I have always tried to breed the perfect German Shepherd, learning all the time.  Throughout this period, with limited breeding, Cedar Kennels has produced over 100 champions.  I enjoy the small number of puppies I have each year, as well as the fun of showing my dogs.

Especially rewarding are the wonderful people I get to know!
