Church of Scotland

The Church of Scotland is Calvinist in doctrine and Presbyterian in polity.

John Knox (1505–1572), a Scot who had spent time studying under Calvin in Geneva, returned to Scotland and led the Parliament of Scotland to embrace the Reformation in 1560. The Church of Scotland was eventually reformed along Presbyterian lines, to become the national, established Church of Scotland.

Church of Scotland's current pledged membership is about 9% of the Scottish population - though according to the 2001 national census, 42% of the Scottish population claim some form of allegiance to it.
