My experience is that financial aid is exceedingly difficult. This information is free for everyone.
These two below are exactly the right kind of big, one-time, opportunities for the needs of some of our youth. I don't know the first very well, as I only learned of it a couple of days ago. I have been working around our Job Corps kids, however, from the Cass Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center near Ozark, Arkansas, near here. They always make a very fine impression!
The Online Colleges.org Support a Student Scholarship for Single Parents
A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded starting January 1st, 2012 to a single parent who is enrolled in an accredited online post-secondary institution. The scholarship will help pay for non-tuition related living expenses for the 2012 academic year that are not covered by the recipient’s current financial aid such as:

United Methodist Communications Scholarships & Fellowships
The $2,500 Leonard M. Perryman Communications Scholarship for Racial Ethnic Minorities is awarded to an undergraduate pursuing the study of religion journalism or mass communications. The Stoody-West Fellowship $6000 grant assists a United Methodist student in her or his post-graduate study at an accredited U.S. college or university who intends to pursue a career in religious journalism.
