This Valentine Haupt arrived in Baltimore, MD on June 30, 1834 with sons listed below.  At this point in time, we have no solid clues as from what village they came from.  There was a shopkeeper named Casper Haupt living in Wetzlar.  He was born March 28, 1739 and died in Wetzlar Jan. 19, 1791 (age:46).  Perhaps this is the father to Valentine Haupt.  See Below.
1.  Johann Casper - b. 1805 d. July 30, 1892
       m. _______ (________) - b. 1803 d. abt. 1846
       m. in Germany
       m. Regina Waltz - b. 1810 d.
       m. Jan. 29, 1849
2.  Christian - b. 1810 d.
      m. Susannah Spidel - b. 1819 d.
Johann Casper Houpt remained in the Baltimore, MD area while his brother Christian moved to Franklin Co., PA area.

Children of Johann Casper Houpt include: Amelia, Wilhelmenia, Edward, and Elizabeth.

Children of Christian and Susannah (Spidel) Houpt include: John Alexander, Mary Ann, Ellen, Christian, Martin, Samuel, Jacob, Jane Sophia, Henry Wilson, Lizzie, and Virginia.
New - According to Donna (Houpt) Babbs, her father Robert Charles Houpt at age 22 wrote down in 1942, as part of the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of his grandparents, that his grandfather's grandfather was from Heidelberg.  The grandfather, who was alive at the time was Charles Daniel Houpt.  Charles Daniel Houpt's grandfather was Christian Haupt s/o Valentine Haupt.  Robert Charles Houpt further noted that Christian Haupt was a Cooper by trade.

There was a Haupt clan in the area of the Neckar River dating back to the 1500's in Heilbronn - just upstream from the well known Heidelberg.
There was a Caspar Haupt (b. abt. 1570) who resided there.

A month after Valentine and sons arrived in Baltimore, another ship "Theodore Korner" arrived - July 26, 1834 in Baltimore.  On this ship were several Haupts - two of whom were named Casper Haupt.  One Casper Haupt aged 33 is said to be from Burkerdroth - which I am sure should read Burkardroth - a town in very northern Bavaria - due north of Wurzburg and ENE of Frankfurt.  Perhaps these Haupts are related and are all from Burkardroth. Caspar Haupt's naturalization papers indicate he was born in Prussia.  According to the 1870 census records of one of Caspar's daughters, Caspar was born in Saxony.  Saxony was a part of Prussia so both accounts support each other.  Daughter Amelia married Lewis Mersfelder and daughter Wilhelmina married Charles Mersfelder.  Both of these couples migrated to Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA.  These notations courtesy of Ray Eschelman.  Posted Aug. 24, 2009.

With regard to the note further above with reference to Heidelberg.  There is a very tiny village of Heidelberg in Saxony located ESE of Chemnitz and SW of Dresden on the border with the Czech Republic in the Erzgebirgskries.  There is an old line of Haupts from this area.

The ship Valentine Houpt arrived on is believed to be the Neptune which departed from Bremen.  Unfortuately, no ships lists exist for this voyage.  The Neptune did arrive on that date however.

Personal note: All the Haupts (to my knowledge) that departed from Bremen were from Eisenach a.k.a. Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (since 1809). Which is now in Thuringia near border with Hessen.  This would have been considered both Saxony and Prussia in mid 1800's.  Their path of travel would have been Werra River to Weser River to Port of Bremen.  This area is in the extreme NW corner of Thuringia where Hessen and Lower Saxony meet.  Many Haupt from this immediate area including the Haupt clan of Sudheim, Lower Saxony and Haupt clans of Hessen-Kassel area.
