Heinrich Haupt
Heinrich Haupt was from Windesheim, Kreis Bad Kreuznach, Preussen.  He likely emigrated about 1840 with arrival likely being through the port of New Orleans.  He settled in North St. Louis, Missouri.  He married in St. Louis on Oct. 2, 1843.  His wife Apolona (Roth) Haupt was from Hoesbach, Aschaffenburg, Bayern.

This couple had a son born in St. Louis.  Heinrich Jacob Haupt was born Jan. 23, 1845 and baptized Mar. 9, 1845 at the Deutsche Evangelische Kirche Gemeinde Nord St. Louis.  Today this church is St. Peter's United Church of Christ, St. Louis, MO.  The church birth record tells that Heinrich Jacob Haupt's father was from Windesheim.  Other children of this couple are Amelia (b. Sept. 1849), John (b. abt. 1850 d. Aug. 16, 1894), and Theresa (b. abt. 1859).

Heinrich Jacob Haupt (b. 1845) is very likely the Heinrich Haupt that married Emeline Stelling in Scott Co., Iowa on May 24, 1877.

John Haupt's first wife was Carrie (______) (b. abt. 1851).  He married her Nov. 1869 - in Iowa.  His 2nd wife was Sophia Beyer (b. Feb. 12, 1879).

Amelia married 1st to Frank H. Wagner on Apr. 26, 1867.  She married 2nd to Gustave Vogel on Sept. 15, 1879.

Heinrich (b. 1820) and Apolonia (b. May 1818) would move with family to Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa by 1860.  Heinrich died June 6, 1877 and Apolonia died Feb. 3, 1906 (both in Iowa).

Heinrich Haupt (b. 1820) is possibly a son of Johann Haupt - also of Windesheim (or possibly Johann Heinrich Haupt - b. 1794 d. after 1880).  Johann Haupt died before 1849. Johann Haupt's known children include Elizabeth - b. 1813 d. June 22, 1849 (of cholera); Sophie - b. 1818 d. June 22, 1849 (of cholera, married Blaetz); and possibly Jacob - b. 1815.  This Haupt family settled in St. Louis in 1842.  There was also a Johann Heinrich Haupt was age 86 in 1880 census of St. Louis, MO.  Also listed in 3rd Ward of 1850 census (page 280).  He is listed in 1880 as (single). Perhaps he too is from Windesheim.

I would like to know much more about this family line.  The above is all that is currently known by this researcher.

There is potential for much confusion as this Haupt line resided so close to another large Haupt clan from Sudheim, Germany that resided just south of St. Louis in Cape Girardeau County, MO.  There were also many other Haupts with direct ties to
St. Louis, St. Louis County, MO.

The following may be related to Heinrich Haupt as perhaps a brother or perhaps a nephew. Perhaps there is no relation.

Julius Haupt (b. 1840) married Mari Heine (b. 1850) on Jan. 12, 1869 in St. Charles County, MO.  St. Charles County is immediately next to St. Louis County, MO where Henry Haupt resided.  Actually, it is to the north of St. Louis County.  This Julius Haupt is believed to be the same Julius Haupt of Cloverdale, Sonoma County, CA who was born in Missouri in July 1840. In 1880, we find Julius and Mary (both born in MO) with children Louis E.  (b. 1871 in IL) and Nellie May (b. 1879 in CA).

Later, Nellie May Haupt would marry Hubbard Kavanaugh Thornton (b. 1875) in Healdsburg, Sonoma Co., CA.
