|Pictured in the foreground above is one of a pair of fountains given to the people of the United States by Enid Annenberg Haupt in 1968. The rainbow granite monoliths are 18 feet square by 1 foot thick and each weighs 55 tons. They were quarried from Morton, Minnesota.
Former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, wanted to "frame the White House in water". The pair of fountains is located immediately behind the White House - on the Ellipse - at 16th Street and Constitution Avenue. They are located between the White House and the Washington Monument.
