The club was formed out of the community service club that was at the school. The club under Mrs. Patty Briggs a Biology teacher at the school had done excellent work within the area. Through talks between Lion Jeff Browett of McDonald and Mrs. Patty Briggs the concept of turning the club into a LEO club was born.  Lion Jeff Browett approached Midway Area Lions and Hickory Lions clubs that are with in the Fort Cherry School District, and all agreed to move forward with full support. This would help the young people within the school district with their effords in community service and provide the extra helping hand to the youth of the area. The Fort Cherry S.D. Leo Club held its chartering and installation  meeting on December 5th 1996 at the Fort Cherry Jr. - Sr. High Auditorium.
