| The Shining (1980) |

| Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining stars Jack Nichoson as lead Jack Torrence, with Shelly Duvall as Wendy Torrence. His version of the movie created even more cultural resonance than Stephen King's best-seller, the picture of Jack Nicholson, weilding an axe, saying "Here's Johnny" is one of the all time classics in horror movies. It's a grandiose haunted-house tale in which Jack Torrence takes his wife and young son to the secluded Overlook Hotel to serve as off-season caretaker, and proceeds to suffer a psychological breakdown that can't be attributed to cabin fever alone. The Overlook has a violent past that echoes throughout the building, and while young Danny senses this frightening legacy through the prescient gift of " shining," his father deteriorates into a state of homicidal psychosis. Stephen King, himself, did not like this movie, it did a horrible job of following the book, leaving out the hedge monsters, and other things that Kubrick added that he should'nt have.
