| The Dead Zone (1983) |
| In The Dead Zone Christopher Walken plays Johnny Smith, a schoolteacher who wakes up from a five-year coma, and he discovers that he has acquired the ability to foretell a person's future simply by touching his or her hand. After seeing several examples, Walken's doctor Herbert Lom becomes convinced that Walken can not only predict the future, but also has the power to change it. This ability is given its severest test when he shakes the hand of ruthless political candidate Greg Stillson, (Martin Sheen) and suddenly has a flash-forward to a nuclear holocaust. David Croneberg added some unnesecary gore and alot of the important points in the book were left out. There is a new Dead Zone series/mini-series in the works for Upn, check out the News and Upoming sections for more. Dead Zone is a pretty bad movie. It is one of the worst King adaptions I have ever seen. It is exactly the type of movie that gives King films bad reputations. David Cronenberg rejected King's original script for the film saying ": "It was the worst — if I'd made his version of it, his fans would have killed me." He should have used it and not make a sloppy adaption like this, maybe someday the script will be produced... but hopefully the mini-series will do the book the justice it deserves, I apologize for giving too much of my opinion there, The Dead Zone is my favorite book (tied with The Stand) and it just got me real mad when I saw how bad the movie was.
