This is the layout for Sharpe's chemistry lab from a bird's eye view. The dark blue rectangles are lab stations, which cannot be moved around because they are bolted firmly into the tiled floor. The turquoise rectangles are desks. The smaller desks (nine, ten and eleven) are moveable and can be positioned around the classroom if necessary. The back table (twelve) cannot be moved.
Sharpe prefers to have his students sit closer to the front of the room, so table 12 is reserved only for when he has a large class or when students are taking tests and they need to have more space. As a result, table 12 is often used for storing equipment during lab sessions.
In the back corner is the fumehood and the back counter, complete with its own sink. The fume hood is for working with any chemicals that might pose a specific danger. The back counter is for distributing chemicals during lab, for preparing labs and it is also known as lab station 8. Chemical storage is on the side of the room in cabinets. Glassware and equipment storage is next-door in the resource center, which also happens to be Josiah Alton's room.
Sharpe's lab bench is at the front of the room and, besides for the fumehood, it is the only place in the chem lab which isn't clean. Sharpe's personal area - where his desk is - is in the corner near lab station 3.
The seat numbering system is rather unique in Sharpe's class. Each lab station and table has its own number and each seat has its own code. For all the stations or tables except for four, seven, eleven and twelve, there are two seats per station: A and B. Station eleven has A, B and C. Station twelve, which is rarely used has A through H. Because of their positioning in the classroom, four and seven each only have A.
There are three entrances/exits for the chem lab. Two are at the front of the room and one is at the back. The one nearest to Sharpe's desk leads to the physics lab (Wilson's room). The other front exit leads out of the building. The back exit, which is near the chemical storage, leads to Mr. Alton's room.
