Presenting Rufus the Wonder Bird
Naughty Boy or Comedian?
This is Rufus the Wonder Bird. He's an African Grey Parrot. He's under the impression he runs things. African Grey Parrots have the reputation for the most intelligent and best talkers of all parrots. I had no idea of what I was getting into!

Rufus was a child of a divorce. His owners divorced when he was only a few years old, and neither one wanted him.

Rufus is quite a naughty boy, but he is quite loveable nevertheless. He is a laugh a minute, but very strong willed.

He likes to make fun of one of my dogs. My dog Nicki was an abandoned puppy, and has never recovered from the feeling. She is afraid of everything and yipes when she is afraid. Whenever my hubby or I say Nicki's name, Rufus yipes. He is quite the comedian!

Marco Polo
Who needs an alarm clock when you have parrots?

I woke up at the crack of dawn (again) to the loud, but very entertaining calls of my parrot. Rufus likes to play "Marco Polo". He will keep yelling "Marco" until we wake up and say "Polo" back to him.

Birds like to keep track of where the rest of the flock is. Rufus loves these interactive games since we are his part of his flock.

My hubby and I will say "Marco" when we are looking for each other in the house. Rufus picked up on this all by himself. I did not try to teach it to him, he just thought it was a good idea.

I say "Marco" to him periodically, from another room hoping for a "Polo" from him. But,  Rufus thinks he is in charge, so he refuses to say "Polo". Rufus answers to no one!
Rufus loves his music!
Rufus likes ragtime music. Previously, I knew that he liked oldies rock and roll, but this is new to me. He might not ever have heard ragtime before, but he liked it right away.

He does this sound like he's snapping his fingers and he moves his "hand" up and down and bobs his head. He only does this with songs he likes.

He can't quite find the beat to the music, but he is really trying to figure out what a down beat is. I sometimes give him downbeat lessons during some of his other favorite songs like "Tequilla" and Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman".

Recently I started listening to www.pandora.com. It is like a free radio station that plays songs similar to other songs you like. It's very interesting. I'm finding out a lot of new songs and artists that I like.

Any way, a song called "High Society Rag" by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band came on a few minutes ago and Rufus made his opinion known in the first few minutes. I liked it right off, myself.

Rufus is really a crack up. He is a naughty boy, but he is sure good company.
