Civilain POW in Manila as a child from 1/42 to 2/45
Born in Cebu, I spent the first 4 1/2 years of my life as a cilian pow in and out of Santo Tomas in Manila from 1/42 - 2/45. My father was a friend of MacArthur's. He was part of the underground in Santo Tomas and survived when the wrong Larsen was executed by the Kempetai in 1/45. My mother, baby sister, amah and I ran through the battle of Manila to get to Santo Toams 2 days after it was liberated by the 1st Cavalry. I speak about WWII in the Pacific to schools, colleges, veterans and civic groups to keep alive the history and memories of those brave men and women who perished while rescuing us.
