James Sheward(1) was received from Dudley MM, England into Kennett MM, Chester Co., PA, 8mo, 3rd day, 1724 on certificate from Dudley MM, Great Britian dated 8th month, 3, 1724. He married 8m,27d, 1725 at Kennett MM, Elizabeth Osbourne, thought to be the daughter of Peter and Judith Osbourne, who had come from Staffordshire, Eng. to Philadelphia in 1712. Peter Osbourne died 7/2/1712 and Judith married William Harvey, a maltster, who had come on the same vessel. The Harvey's left Philadelphia for Kennett, Chester County
James and Elizabeth Osbourne Sheward lived in Bradford Township, Chester County, PA and had three children:
Thomas Sheward who married Ruth Matlack at Goshen MM Chester County, PA, 9/10/1748: Thomas s/o James (dec'd) Chester County, PA m. Ruth Matlack born 12/24/1729, at Goshen MM d/o Joseph & Rebecca
James Sheward(2), and
Samuel Sheward, who died in 1754, interstate, and married Ruth Smith; Later, John Gregg s/o Thomas (dec'd) of Chester County, PA married at London Grove MM Ruth Sheward, widow of Samuel on 9/29/1756 at New Garden MM, Chester County, PA. On 9/17/1761 they are at Fairfax MM in Virginia. Samuel Sheward and Ruth had one daughter, Jane Sheward.
James Sheward(1) died in 1732. Letters of Administration were granted to Elizabeth (Osbourne) Sheward April 8, 1732. Sureties were Jos. Mendenhall and Richard Buffington. The Inventory was filed 4/8/1732 in the presence of Jane Sheward. Elizabeth married again to Francis Way at West Bradford Meeting on 8/24/1734.
Thomas Sheward, son of James & Elizabeth Sheward, married Ruth Matlack (first cousin to Timothy Matlack, secretary of the Continental Congress and penman of the Declaration of Independence), the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Haines) Matlack of Goshen Twp., Chester County, Pa. Thomas Sheward died in 1764. Their children were:

Rebecca Sheward who married John Young

Ruth Sheward who married John Lilly
James Sheward(3), supposed by me to be the son of the above named Thomas Sheward and Ruth Matlack, lived in Chester County, PA, and possibly left around 1791, when on 15 March 1791 the Deed Grantor Index, Book F 2 folio 169 of Chester County, PA records James Sheward, Yeoman & Phebe his wife of twsp of West Bradford sell to James Embree land for 335 pounds current gold and silver. Adjacent land was owned by John Buffington. Phebe was the daughter of John Buffington who left Chester County, PA for Washington County, PA.

In the name of God Amen I James Sheward of Scioto County in the State of Ohio being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind & memory blessed by Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following
that is to say to pay Ruth McCoy five dollars in addition to what she has already received in the year from my death and Sally Wees five dollars in the same manner and Tace Kinkaid five dollars also in one year from my death. Isaiah Sheward my eldest son to be pain one hundred dollars out of my property in one year form my death and, Rebeckah Baker to received one hundred and five dollars with which she has already received in one year of..my death also Nathan Sheward to be paid one hundred and..of my property in one year from my death, Ezekial and James Sheward I further bequeath unto my two younger sons all my real Estate provided they pay to Phebe Sheward one hundred dollars when she becomes of lawful age and my youngest son David Sheward one hundred dollars when he becomes of lawful age to be equally divided between them at their Mothers death. She is to have her living on the premises and lastly I bequeath unto my beloved wife Phebe Sheward all my personal Estate goods and chattels of whatsoever kind and nature, Whom I hereby appoint sole Executrix of this my last will and teatament hereby revoking all other Wills by me made
