Elizabeth Morris married William Hawks as his second wife. View this family for the children of Elizabeth Morris Hawks. She was born 6 May 1825 in Leighton, NJ and died 23 Feb. 1895 in Tusten, Sullivan County.
My grandmother, Elizabeth Deterick Stanton recollected for me in 1981 that Elizabeth Morris Hawks was born in Morristown, NJ. She was her mother's only child when her father died. When Elizabeth (Morris) was a little girl, her mother remarried a Mr. Roberts, a sawyer, who moved the family to Beaver Brook, near Tusten, Sullivan Co., NY. Elizabeth Morris had a half-sister named "Kit," called by young Eliabeth Deterick Stanton, "Aunt Kit Raub." Grandmother Stanton went on to say that there were quite a few Roberts near Tusten, and when she was a grown woman, Grandmother was surprised to learn she was related to them.
In the Tusten Cemetery, Elizabeth Morris was buried near her husband, William Hawks, her deceased children and also a William Morris who died 9/20/1847 aged 24 yrs 6m 3 days. Also buried there is Sarah Roberts, born 6/13/1802, died 5/30/1864, maiden name Bross, wife of William Roberts. Interestingly, William Hawks, husband of Elizabeth Morris, traded land from 1855 to 1878 to the Bross family. I have been unable to secure a connection, but one definetly seems to exist between the Morris, Roberts and Bross surnames.
