We all look forward to the romantic comedies that hit theaters in the Fall. A break from the action packed summer blockbusters (or flops), and not as serious as all the Oscar contenders.

Serendipity begins with a chance meeting of two young people in a shopping store, reaching for the same gloves. Immediately there is a spark, but they are both involved and she would rather leave it to fate. But by a stroke of fate they meet again later that evening. She decides to leave it to destiny by writing her number in a book, and he writing his on some money. They send it out into the universe and say goodbye.

A couple of years later, each are leading seperate lives and engaged to be married. Jonathan is fixing to marry very soon but suddenly finds himself thinking of nothing but Sarah, that wonderful woman he had a glimpse of a second in time with years ago. He sets out on a quest to find her, so many leads, so many dead ends..he starts to believe in signs and rekindles his best friends idea that maybe there is some magic and passion in the world. Naturally this isn't a good idea for any future groom to be doing before his wedding, but he reasons if he can just see her one last time he can put her memory to rest.

And Sarah is herself having thoughts of him, and gives her best friend a gift trip to New York for her birthday. But she has ulterior motives of tracking down Jonathan. So many signs that seem to be leading her to him. As a viewer you wonder if it will lead to the obvious ending, or completely opposite. Then i wondered if their destiny was not to ever meet, or to meet and maybe their best friends falling in love..lol. But i'll leave that for you to find out. Unfortunately I enjoy the film as much as I would have liked to.

Somehow things felt overwhelmingly implausible. Is it really destiny that leads us to one person being our only change for happiness? Morally was it right for them to have ever begun other relationships knowing they'd never feel the same, and why risk losing what could be a really happy relationship for a fantasy from memory? From a single meeting can you know it's love? And is it fair to hold anyone else to that fantasy of an image of someone that you don't even really know? Well, it IS a movie. Guess nobody wants to see an ending where they finally meet eachother and get married only to find out one of them had a sex change or is a binge eater. I wanted it to be better, it just wasn't.
