Freddy is a teen who gets a really great job working in a medical supply building that ships cadavers and bodies to scientists! Fedex I wonder? His co-worker tells him a tasty tale about how "Night of the Living Dead" was a true story. The government had to coverup a chemical spill that accidentally brought some corpses to life. He can prove it, because he's got some of those leftover bodies in the basement right now! Well leave it to an idiot like that working the night shift to prove how solid those canisters are by giving them a good wack, which inevitably cracks it open and sprays out deadly chemicals.
Those chemicals cause some dead things in the building to wake up, so they creamate the zombie in the crematorium next door which releases gas into the air..it rains and the gas seeps into the ground, awakening a few sleepyheads in the cemetary. And they have a deep dark craving for some down home brains. If only the cemetary had been near a Reality Tv show studio, maybe they would have starved to death! The noxious fumes affect the two men who slowly begin feeling sick, cold, and call the paramedics who arrive to find out they're dead! Rigamortis is setting in! Well all things considering, they take it pretty well.
Also make sure if by some chance you get turned into a zombie that you have a girlfriend who loves you enough to let you eat her brains. It's got zombies, it's got humor, it's got brain-eating who could ask for anything more? The film was directed by Daniel O'Bannon who has only one other film he's directed under his belt, but he's been a writer on films such as the "Alien" movies, "screamers", "invaders from mars", "Bleeders"...well you get the picture.
This film has always been a favorite for many, particularly those who like really cheesy b-movies with zombies. But this one with all the wise-cracks has a dark side and some solid special effects. Evidently made in the 80's! I'd also recommend making it a double feature night, why not rent the sequel "Return of the Living Dead 2". This one features zombies that are easily distracted by watching aerobics, where kid brothers are usually the smartest ones in situations of peril. And of course, having your brain eaten by someone you love may cause arousal! Some love stories just never die.
Always worth revisiting on video, great to watch with friends, a classic, and a very popular movie that most b-movie fanatics own!
