I am going to use
some excerpt from The Hunger Site to explain it all, however
all the answers apply to all of the above sites, as they all work
in the same basic way.
Q. What is The
Hunger Site?
A. The Hunger Site is the world's first
"click-to-donate" site. It gives Internet
users the ability to quickly make a difference in the fight to
end hunger. Daily, in less than
5 seconds, a visitor can click on the "donate free
food" button and send food to the hungry...
Q. What happens
when I click on the "Donate Free Food" button?
Does the donation cost me anything?
A. When you click on the "Donate Free Food"
button, our computer server registers your
daily donation. The computer adds your donation to the day's
totals and sends you to the
Thank You page where the names of the sponsors who have paid for
your donation are displayed.
There is absolutely no charge to you for the donation; it is
fully paid for by the sponsors.
Q. How does the
site work? Who pays for the food?
A. The site's sponsors pay for your daily click. The
sponsor's purchase a tile on the
Thank You page for a certain amount of time. The Hunger Site then
tabulates the number
of people who click during that time frame and bill the sponsor
for the appropriate
amount. The Hunger Site divides the monies between the two hunger
relief
organizations, America's Second Harvest and Mercy Corps.
Q. How often can
I click -- free of charge -- to donate free food?
A. You can make one donation every day. An easy way to
remember to do this is to make
The Hunger Site your home page. Please click here for instructions. Depending
on the speed of your modem, it might take you only a few seconds
each day
to make a free donation of food.
Q. Can I just
keep clicking on the "Donate Free Food"
button and make a hundred donations?
A. Sorry, we wish you could! Unfortunately, our agreement
with our sponsors only
allows us to count one donation from you each calendar day. A
monitoring system is
set up to check this. While you could click on the button a
hundred times, this would
only count as one donation. In the meantime, our system would be
slowed down, or
possibly overloaded, preventing other donations from being made.
Please note that we do
count donations received through company firewalls, proxy
servers, etc., to the best of
our ability. We make every effort to count every donation as
fairly and accurately as possible.
