Something that is constant in Wicca is a belief in the Goddess. Some people identify with a dual Goddess/God figurehead, others in a Goddess centered power. Whatever the case, one can always find the belief that Goddess is NOT an abstract, higher power. She is a force that each day is active in your life, as we believe that we ARE Goddess/God because each day it is possible to bring these powers into yourself. You are the key in this relationship, you have the possibilities of any and everything in front of you. Within Wicca, you must be personally responsible for all you do, as we believe that good or bad, it will return to you. Wicca definitely is not for ego-trips or for someone who can't accept their own actions...Goddess means many different things to different people. To me, She is all encompassing and I revere all aspects of Her. Just as there are three phases to the moon, there are three aspects of our Lady. The Maiden, fresh and full of promise (like my lovely daughters) blossoming and capable of so much. The Maiden is who I call for matters of love, and needs concerning self image.
She is to me all the beauty in a budding flower, the sweet scent of a gentle breeze. Then there is the Mother, the nurturing aspect of Her. The mother is ripe, fertile and spilling over with caring for others. She is realizing Herself and Her power. She is represented by the Earth itself, it's life giving soil and by anything that is life sustaining. I ask for Her strength for family matters, sexuality, and humanitarian concerns. Last we have the final aspect of the Crone. She is old and very wise, the woman we can all aspire to be in our final years. The Crone knows much and speaks of little. To me She is the one to turn to for needs of guidance in our dance around the Wheel. The Crone isn't always pretty or nurturing. The darker forces of our Earth are contained within Her. She has come to realize her power fully.So how do these aspects of our Mother come into play into our daily lives?
There are many opportunities for the Mother's guidance and help. I think the biggest of these needs is concerning women's value in today's world, and the need for us to stop working against each other and toward a common goal of caring for each other and our planet. It upsets me so much to see women fighting each other day to day, trying to be smarter, prettier, richer or better than one of our sisters. Or to see the demeaning roles we put ourselves into without questioning motives or reasons. Women today are constantly devalued, objectified, and held down in ways we never stop to question or put an end to.To me, one of our greatest challenges today is to break free of the roles that society forces upon us and realize ourselves as we were meant to be... Fully living our lives each day without feeling intimidated, scared, guilty, hopeless or powerless. Women are so full of potential and most will never come to believe this, instead they will feel ugly, fat, stupid or inferior. Every day, women who never stop to think about what's truly inside of them surrender their power to the people around them, demurring to others only to please them ... this is a great injustice for every woman. Each of us is such a beautiful, precious creature and we should never be made to feel second best...
Beautiful Woman, please stop pandering to others and look at yourself ... no matter who you are you are great and fortunate in some way. Learn to build on your strengths and to stand up for yourself. Make yourself happy without feeling guilty. Look at the sky and thank the wind for caressing your face... Don't ever be sorry for what you feel and who you are... Stand up for yourself and what you believe in... Often it's so easy to project difficulties onto someone or something else; take a good look at what you can do ... because it's all inside... And lastly, teach our daughters and sisters to love and respect themselves and everything around them. Teach them that they are the Maidens that are so full of promise, a promise to change the way we interact with ourselves and our Mother. We have all we need to heal the world in our hearts and all the power we could ever need in our fingertips... Just close your eyes and remember who you truly are... a Goddess ... so live your life as one!!!
