What is Divination?
Well, Webster's Dictionary says this for Divination:divination (div'e-na'shen) n. 1. The act or art of knowing the
future or that which is hidden or unknown.
2. A prophet. 3. A clever guess. --di-vin-a-to-ry (div-in'e-tor'e) adj.Well, we can't always believe a dictionary. Number one is
the closest to what divination actually is. However, it is NOT
a clever guess. That has its own name:
Coincendance! I am not exactly sure how A prophet
got in there either. Oh well!Microsoft Bookshelf '94 gave the following from The American
Heritage Dictionary of the English Language:div·i·na·tion (dîv´e-nâ¹shen) noun
1. The art or act of foretelling future events or revealing occult
knowledge by means of augury or an alleged supernatural agency.
2. An inspired guess or presentiment.
3. Something that has been divined.
di·vin¹a·to´ry (dî-vîn¹e-tôr´ê, -tor´ê) adjective
...and from Bookshelf's Encyclopedia:
divination (dîv´e-nâ¹shen), foreseeing future events or obtaining
secret knowledge through divine sources, omens, or oracles. It
is based on the belief that revelations are offered to humans in
extra rational forms of knowledge: ancient Chaldeans studied
birds' flight and patterns in water or entrails; the Greeks put
their trust in the ORACLE. Present-day forms of divination
include crystal gazing, palmistry, and astrology.
Well, now that you know what divination is, let's discuss the different types.
There are a LOT of different types of divination tools. One of the more common ones is the Tarot deck.
