Online Courses
Witch School (F & P)
"WitchSchool.com offers as its first basic service a First Degree Wicca Course. This is a 13-lesson system covering a broad rangeof skills and philosophies of modern Wicca. An essay final and upon graduation, you can become a First Degree Wiccan."
Based on the degree system, there is a basic course which is free and furthur courses thereafter which will give you your degree(s) cost money. I am enrolled in the basic course and so far, so good.Control Your Life with Witchcraft and Paganism [link partner] (F)
This is a good online course that is completely free. Unlike other courses, you do not need to submit anything. The lessons are presented in monographs and they recommend that you do them a maximum of one a week. At the end of each monograph is a exercise. You will need self-discipline to complete this course because you do it on your own. The creators are there to help if you need it though.
Witchcraft from the Ground Up (F)
Unlike many other courses on Witchcraft, this one focuses more on developing your personal skills and includes information on OBE's, Astral Travelling and more. This is not an interactive course. You read the material and there are a couple of exercises after each lesson. There is no set amount of time you should spend on each lesson and you don't have to submit your answers or results to the exercises but the longer and more serious you take the lessons, the more you will get out of it. I am currently on Section 3.
WICA - Witchcraft Information Centre and Archive (P)
"Study and understand Witchcraft from its earliest beginnings through persecution and Inquisition to its modern re-incarnation as the religion of Wicca, one of the fastest growing and most radical spiritualities of the 21st Century."
Course material comes in the form of pdf files which you can download online once you are registered. This course is not free and costs money but it looks like it'w worth it. Check it out.Circle of Stars (F)
"Starting in January 2003 we will be restarting our lessons in email fashion through this list, training for the First Degree in the Gaean Tradition. "
This course is through a Yahoo! group which means you have to deal with Yahoo! but I'm sure it's still worthwhile.
NOTE: Once lessons begin the school will be closed to new students until Feb. 2004.Offers a Crystal Magic, Pagan Paths and Basic Wicca course by correspondance or online. First lesson is free, no obligation to continue. The prices are in British money.
Moon Sisters School for the Green Witch (F)
"This school is associated and run by Moon Sisiters Coven An online coven of 13 witchy women, that practice magick together as a coven. We are here to help you learn."
This course is free but is also through Yahoo! Group. It seems to be professionally done. I might try it when I'm done WitchSchool.Centauri's Witchcraft Class (F)
"This class is designed for the eclectic solitary or anyone interested in learning the Craft."
This is a course you do on your own, you read the lessons and do the excercises and when you are ready, you move on. There is no checking as far as I can see so if you don't do an exercise, you would only be cheating yourself. This class is for members only. Membership is $25.00/year.
"...we are certain that you'll think this is the best money you've ever spent learning about herbs, tarot, runes, Goddesses & Gods, Wicca, Witchcraft, spells, magic, rituals, the Sabbats, stones and everything else related to Paganism."Blue Moonlight Coven: Seminary of Living Earth Religions (P)
Online Courses are done weekly in a kind of chat room. They ask members to contribute $10.00/month. There is also an at-your-own-pace online course which is $75.00. Once at their homepage, click on Online Courses to the left. They also offer offline courses, see further down for more info.
This 'course' is basically just reading material. There is no tests or projects, it's just information to read but it IS a good and worthwhile read. The author asks that you be 18 + to enter the site. The information there is great even if you think you know all the basics. I especially liked the History information. It's correct!
Wicca Lectures (F)
This is another just reading course. There is a guestbook which acts like a question area, you post a question and the webmaster will answer it. I looked at a bit of the information, it seems okay. There seems to be a slant towards Egyptian dieities. I'm not sure this is the best course or even the one you should go to first but if you are looking for more info, check it out.
Free Lessons from Questing Spirit (F)
The material in this course seems to be a bit different than most. You do not submit anything, you just read and then do the exercises. You need self-discipline for this. The pages are kind of graphic heavy and have these floating butterflies that go across your screen so if you have a slow connection, it may take a while for you to load these pages and the butterflies can get a little annoying at times. To get to the lessons, click the next button.
School of Magick (F & P)
School of Magick seems to be along the same lines as Witchschool. What I mean is, they offer a Basic Membership for free but you must pay to do other courses. I only took a brief look but the information seems correct. They are working on their webpage layout and currently, the lessons are hard to read. At the end of each lesson is a bunch of questions that you answer in a form which you then send in for grading. They ask that you do not continue until you have received your grade from the previous lesson but there is nothing stopping you from continuing. Also, the homework questions are not all multiple choice (in fact, most aren't) so they must be graded by hand. This means you will need to wait for your grade. Overall, this school seems very well throughout and once it has been around longer, I think it will be more popular. I don't think they are teaching a certain tradition but the second lesson in the General Magick Course is about Faery Witchcraft.
New Courses every 3 months. Approx. prices around $60 US. You practice exercises and post in forum. Looks good.
Magicka School (F & P)
School of Wicca and Tarot. Basic Membership is Free. With paid membership, access to more courses, certificates and ezine. I am doing Basic Tarot and Basic Wicca course. You read the lesson and have a month before you can take your test. There are exercises to do and research topics that you post on the forums but you can take the test and advance without doing them.
Avalonia Wicca Correspondence Course (P)
"This course is aimed at people interested in the Wiccan Tradition, who might already work by themselves and who for personal or location reasons are unable to join a coven at this time or who wants to further explore Wiccan spirituality and practises as a solitary." Email courses, pdf's sent to you, you do exercises and send back feedback.
Basics of Witchcraft Course (F)
13 Lessons posted on the website, you work at your own speed and on your own. No Grading or record keeping. Need self-discipline.
Another of many schools using the moodle system. Some courses include Divination, God Studies, Goddess Studies, Healing, Magick, Techno-Pagans, Witchlings and more.
Adept Academy of Pagan Arts (F)
Another moodle school. Some courses include Exploring the Dark Arts, Magical Living, Magical Pantry, Solitary Practice, World Mythology and more. It also looks like they will be offering some Spanish Language Courses in the future. I am in the process of signing up for this school.
