Young Rider's Fan Memories

Crysti, 20

I was 3 when the show first came on TV and 6 when the show originally ended. During those 3 years me and my family watched every week. Then it came back on the air on the Hallmark channel when I was in high school. I loved watching the young riders, especially Running Buck Cross. I never missed an episode. I was upset that they took it back off the air again. Now once again I am happy because they brought them to DVD. I will be glad when season 2 and 3 comes out because this is my all time favorite show.

I'm only fifteen so i only began to see the series at the beginning of the year. I was angry towards it at first because my favourite show had been taken off. I was ready to smash the TV. But i got inot it and fell in love, with Kid. I've had these fantasies that I was Lou. I remember going to school and my friend asked me what happened the night before and i told her about TYR. She began watching it and like me fell in love with it. Now i really wish it was all channels. Does anyone know if the show is video or DVD? I'm gald that i've had the chance to see the show in which i see the friendship and the real way a family acts. Thanks to all the TYR Fans for keeping it alive for those of us who've only seen the shows recently.

I am 16 so I never got to see the first show but when I bacame homeschooled I had alot of time to spare. So one day I was watching tv when I found the young riders I instntly fell in love with them. I loved Ikes sweet spirit , Bucks willingness to accept everybody , Jimmys way of showing how much he really cares , Teaspoons sense of humor , Emmas willingness to take care of all those boys , Kids love for Lou and willingness to keep her secret , I just love the show. I have alwaysed wished that they would use me as an actress if they still made the show I want it to be back on. I wish that one day I could meet them, that would be the best thing !!!! The young Riders is the best show in the world.

I guess that you might not consider this a *good* memory but my frist thoughts of the show were actually bad. My father was really into Westerns while all I watched was shows like 90210. I originally hated the show. It wasn't until after my car accident in the spring of 2000 that, being couped up in the house and bored out of my mind, I started watching the show. At first it was just curiosity about where the "bald one" went (I caught the show at the end of its last season, right after Ike died). However, as I started watching it I fell in love, first with Jimmy, then with Buck, and now as Teaspoon once said "I love them all!"

I am 24 years old and I love the series The Young Riders. I watched it when it first aired and I still watch it today. I have all the episodes taped from Oddessy but I wish I could buy an original collection, ones that was not edited. All I can say is that my husband thinks I so weird. i remember when I first watched it I was in a small catholic school and i was the only one in class who was into watching this. Everyone else was into only 90210.

MMM, let me see. It's so hard to pick just one isn't it? I started watching Young Riders from the very beginning. I have always been interested in the people and events that happened during the 1800's, ever since I started watching Little House on The Prairie. What I liked right away was how different the characters were in their looks, personalities, and backgrounds and how it didn't stop them from becoming a family. It didn't matter that they didn't always get along with each other, but that they were always there for each other when the going got tough. Another thing that drew my attention was the sage wisdom of Teaspoon. My parents divorced when I was only six months old and although my father is still very much alive(my mom's deceased), he chooses not to have anything to do with me or my two older sisters. So the fact that this man could forge such a tight family out of the young riders in his care who have no blood relation to each other was just awesome to me.

I'm seventeen. I first became addicted to TYR when i was 5 (yes 5) years old. I can vaguely remember watching the show as a kid and i knbow i was ssssssssssssoooooooooooooo in love with Jimmy (Still Am!!!). I probobly shouldn't have been watching that young 'cuz of all the "violence", but i did anyway, and will never regret it. I can remember telling my parents that i was only watching it to see the horses, what a lie! Anyway, I had completely forgotten about the show over the last decade, but i saw the end of "The Littlest Cowboy" one night last summer. All these awsome memories came back and i was imediatly hooked on TYR again, even more than ever. My whole family hates the show and thinks i'm insane to watch "some stupid show about cowboys". I love TYR and especially Jimmy!!! I've even gotten my best friend hooked. Pretty good for someone who didn't even remember the show last March!

TYR FOREVER!

A lot of my TYR memories are a bit general, but here goes.

This could get personal, but hey, we're all friends here. I was 19 when TYR first aired and newly married. Let's just say it was a miserable marriage and TYR was a definite escape. I loved Lou's fiery independence and wanted to be Lou! All those cute guys weren't a chore to look at either! ;)
I remember watching it every week and I even started dressing western -- black wranglers, black ropers, western shirts. That was so not my usual style, but the show really made an impression on me.
I only remember a few specifics since that was over a decade ago. Kid was always my favorite guy, but I liked them all. I remember being so upset when Ike was killed; I had wanted him and Emily to marry and ride off into the sunset happily ever after. I also remember getting upset when Jimmy and Lou kissed because I wanted her to be with Kid. Also, Jesse usually irritated me and I wanted him to quit taking up screen time. :)
Of course, now I am 30 and a few things have changed, but Kid is still my favorite. My 8 year old daughter found the re-runs on Odyssey this summer and we both loved the show -- again for me. Because of TYR, I have made a lot of wonderful friends. I think there must be something very special about a show that inspires fans 10 years later and even appeals to "my" children.

Hugs :)

I remember watching the original airing of the pilot episode with my family. I was 11 years old. I remember that my mom knew Lou was a girl the first time we saw her when Teaspoon was meeting the riders. Did any of you know that Lou was a girl in the pilot before the scene when Kid found out?

Rhiannon
okay...

  • I was ten years old and spending the night at a friends house. All of her brothers were huddled in the living room watching TV. I dont remember exactly how the conversation started but I remember her dad saying "They are watching this show, its barbie's** favorite! She has a crush on the cowboys." Immediatly my friend's face turned bright red and she denied that whole statement. Then we sat and watched the rest of the episode with her brothers (though I really dont think she wanted to) I started watching the show after that. When I became re-obsessed I called her up and told her about it. She has turned out to be one of my best friends, a college roomate for a semester, and a person I truly know I could call up at 3 am and have a shoulder to cry on. I havent told her about my internet addiction she has caused though.

  • other TYR memories... Sitting in my parent's bedroom (becuase everyone else didnt want to watch the show) watching Presence of Mine Enemies. I *had* to watch that night, because TV Guide had put TYR in the little featured section for the day, and that had never happened before so i *knew* it had to be important. I remember making up all kinds of reasons in my head that Travis Fine had to leave the show for them to kill him (the most farfetched being that he had to grow his hair out to become anthony kiedis of the red hot chili peppers the next year when they became so popular) Then I had to act all normal when I went back in with my family, since they would never understand what I had just gone through.
To this day my dad still thinks the majority of my obsession surrounding the show is toward "that baldwin boy" :)

Okay, I have more than one favorite TYR memory...
  • The first episode I ever saw...it was The Exchange, and I was hooked from the very beginning...ever since that day, I have wanted to be Lou!:)
  • The episode "Road Not Taken" for the very fact that it originally aired on my 13th birthday. That was a really cool day:)
  • Standing in the cemetery at Old Tucson Studios, knowing I was standing in THE spot where Kid proposed to Lou
  • Making up TYR stories, and acting them out with my best friend when I was younger (I found a bunch of old scripts I had written--just really short ones to start the storyline my friend and I would play--when I was home for Christmas! I had to laugh at myself, because they are soooooooo silly, but I've actually turned quite a few of them into fan fiction, and have an idea for another one that I found that was a TYR/Bordertown crossover...does anyone else remember that show? I used to love it!:)

Well, The greatest show ever: TYR, will let me a kind of strong memory or maybe more...I was 9 years old when this fabulous show came on the french TV (french people are still in late!!) and I watched the three seasons twice or more (I recorded it!) The first time I was really impressed by the story and the second time I was impressed...by Buck!!!
And I really think that when you watch it you'll ever keep something from the show: the historic side, the characters, the poney express way of life...It's maybe something you'll never say but always something you keep like pictures in your mind, don't you think?

I have been Young Riders fan ever since I can remember. I am 19 now, but I have been watching the show since day one. My younger brother Adam was 5 when we started watching the show. In fact, he's the one who recently brought the show up and we saw a re-run on Odyssey. It was great! So, to make a long story short, my brother and I are going to tape all of the re-runs now and make a classic Young Riders collection. Hopefully it will remain on the air, it is the best series ever made!
